James
was listed as a widower and manufacturing chemist on his second wedding
registration, but appears to have worked primarily as a harness
maker in Canada. James, Ann and their eldest daughter immigrated in
1861 and settled in Vittoria, Charlotteville Township, Norfolk
County, where he was employed as a harness maker by George Hewitt,
and rang the town bell for several years. See photo of James
H. Church. See photo of Ann and her
daughters.
