The death occurred on Sunday,
March 4th, after a long illness, of Squire Haley, a well-known resident of
Goshen.
Mr. Haley was born April 17th,
1829, in Bayham township, near Tillsonburg. After his marriage, on May
29th, 1853, to Sarah Ann Webster, they settled on lots 13 and 14, in
Goshen, on the homestead were Mr. Haley died. The farm was then a
wilderness, no road extending to it. By faithful industry the farm was
cleared and good buildings were erected on it. Mrs. Haley died in 1868 and
Mr. Haley married Emily Ann Wallis, who died in 1900.
Of the children of the first wife,
three survive. These are: Miss E. Haley of Toronto, Mrs. C. F. Wilson of
Woodstock, and Mr. George Haley of Goshen. Of the second marriage, one
son, Mr. Thomas Haley, who resides on the homestead, survives.
Mrs. James Ronson of Bayham and
Mrs. Thomas Herron of Courtland are sisters of the deceased.
The funeral took place on Tuesday
of last week the interment being made at the Goshen cemetery, the services
being conducted by the Rev. Mr. Silcox of Eden.
